FRENCH AND British helicopter crews joined forces as they prepare to take part in a major Nato land exercise with US military personnel. The formation of eight Apache, 10 Wildcat, two Chinook and four Gazelle helicopters showcased their flying skills performing the famous ‘Elephant Walk’ – flying nose to tail in tight formation. Exercise Pinion Titan involves more than 50 aircraft, 2,000 personnel from the British Army, Armée de Terre and the US Army. An Army spokesman said: “The participation of French Gazelle helicopters, which carry out reconnaissance and attack missions, reflects both nations’ central role in Nato and the closer Franco-British military cooperation initiated by the 2010 Lancaster House Treaties.”
